If you recall my previous review of the , I called a lot of attention to the director's decision to have most of the high-action scenes animated in awkward CGI. On this second go-around, the CGI has returned with a vengeance, as the titular Battle for Doldrey takes up a good portion of the film's runtime. Thankfully, Studio 4 C put more effort this time around on the "sword-fodder" army by adding a number of cover up accessories to make them look more varied. Got two soldiers with the same character model standing near each other? Add an eyepatch!



Going into this second film, I was more than a little worried. While the first film had its share of dark moments, this would be the film where the most cuts were made from the Berserk anime series. I'm proud (and frankly, a little uncomfortable) that Berserk: The Golden Age Arc II pulled all the stops to ensure that the manga was properly adapted this time around. As the middle film to a three-part arc, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc II succeeds on all accounts to build up hype for the epic conclusion.



One of my minor complaints about the first film's physical release was its lack of real extras, and Viz has thrown us a bone this time around. Both the DVD and Blu-ray release include an interview between Aki Toyosaki and Minako Kotobuki, who played Charlotte and Rickert in the Japanese version, respectively, and an impressive concert video of Susumu Hirasawa performing the "Aria" theme song. We can only hope that Viz has something epic up it's sleeve for the upcoming arc finale, but only time will tell.
