Benedict Cumberbatch Cast in STAR WARS EPISODE 7?

With the rumor mill swirling about STAR WARS EPISODE 7, the next installment of the legendary franchise directed by J.J. Abrams, many have been left wondering who could fit within that esteemed universe.Late last week, it was reported that a casting announcement for the project was imminent, and for most of the last weekend social media went berserk with die-hard fans prodding bloggers for scoops.According to the folks over at Film Chronicle, that announcement will be quite soon - and they already know who it is.

The site claims that fan-favorite actor Benedict Cumberbatch (STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY) has been cast in an unspecified role for STAR WARS EPISODE 7.Cumberbatch has expressed interest in appearing in the franchise in the past, and this announcement would make sense. He's worked with Abrams before, and was an otherwise bright spot in a relatively dismal film - although it didn't hurt STAR TREK at all.

Cumberbatch's role could be that of a villain, as the common theory for the story includes the offspring of Luke Skywalker, as well as that of Leia and Han Solo. The film takes place 30 years after STAR WARS EPISODE 6: RETURN OF THE JEDI, so chances are that Cumberbatch (age 37) would not be playing any of those roles. It has been widely reported that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are set to reprise their roles from the original film.

Obviously this scoop is unconfirmed and as always should be treated as a rumor, but it's certainly exciting.Cumberbatch has quite the following (especially among the ladies who have dubbed themselves "Cumberbitches"), and he is an exciting actor.Who do you think he could play, and also, what do you think of the casting?
